Snow Removal Policies for CCT

Montgomery Parks snow removal policy for the Capital Crescent Trail in MD:

Montgomery Parks makes a concerted effort to keep the Capital Crescent Trail clear of snow and accessible during and after snow events. Parks uses a three-person team operating utility vehicles equipped with plows and brushes for the duration of snow storms, working roughly from 5:00am to 10:00pm. Please note that Parks is prohibited from using any ice-melting product on the CCT, which limits the ability to address icy areas. Icy locations may be identified with cones.

C&O Canal National Historic Park snow removal policy for the Capital Crescent Trail:

The C&O Canal National Historical Park maintenance team uses an F250 pickup truck with snowplow driven by NPS Maintenance staff to remove snow from the CCT.  Our goal is to remove snow/ice from the CCT within the first eight hours of daylight after the last snow fall.  NPS is prohibited from using any ice-melting product on the CCT.  NPS area of responsibility is from the Maryland Line of the CCT, to the trail head (Key bridge) in DC.

These policies were provided to CCCT on 1/4/2021, so were accurate as of that date.
